Purpose,mandate and Objectives

The Accounting Students Association herein referred to as ASA, is a professional association of undergraduate students of the University of Nairobi, School of Business, interested in proficiency in accounting.


To be a leading students’ association recognized for creating, instilling and promoting professionalism in accountancy.


To instill professionalism and promote interaction among students, professional firms, industrial and corporate enterprises in order to foster a broad understanding of what accounting is concerned with and to reconcile this with the academic pursuits of the members.


‘Instilling professionalism’



  1. To bring together students in Accounting so that they can feel, think and act together in matters affecting their academic welfare, development of Accounting knowledge and the profession.
  2. To establish and maintain contact with firms in public accounting practice and with professional bodies in Kenya.
  3. To hold discussions, debates and seminars on concepts, principles, codes, ideas, changes, and developments in accounting so that members are constantly informed of the trends in the development of their profession. To invite practicing accountants and financial managers to address members on subjects of special interest.
  4. To establish a student’s journal, in which articles relevant to accounting and development of the profession can be published.
  5. To promote interaction with other students, professional firms, industrial and commercial enterprises in order to have a broad spectrum of what accounting involves and to reconcile this with the academic pursuits of the members.
  6. To do other things and engage in other activities as they are or shall be conducive or incidental to the attainment of the objectives of the Association.
