Held on October 25th and 26th, 2023, the Fifth Annual Development Finance Conference (ADFC 2023) marked a pivotal moment in the field of development finance. Organized by the Department of Finance and Accounting the conference examined the crucial role of finance in tackling pressing global issues.
Literature provides conflicting results on the effect of diversification on performance of mutual funds with some studies showing a positive relationship (Markowitz, 1952; Muriithi, 2005; Kagunga, 2010), others negative (Chang & Elyasiani, 2008; Fiegenbaum & Thomas, 1998) and still others showing that there is no relationship between the two variables (Loeb, 1950). It is with this background that this study sought to establish the effect of diversification on performance of mutual funds in Kenya.

Prof. Stephen Kiama Gitahi has officially been installed as the 8th Vice Chancellor of the great University of Nairobi.
In a colorful function held at the Taifa Hall in main campus and steamed online to a global audience, Prof. Kiama took oath office with a clear vision of what lay ahead in terms of spearheading the university to global academic and research excellence.
The School of Business commemorated a farewell luncheon for Prof. Erasmus Kaijage who is exiting out of the service as the professor of Finance. Prof. Kaijage has successfully served at the University of Nairobi for Nine Years, before he served as the Dean of School of Business Dar es salaam University 2000 to 2006. He was earlier the Head of the Department of Finance and also Associate Dean Academic for several years in the same Faculty. He has also been Vice-Rector Academic and Acting Rector of the School of Finance and Banking, Kigali, Rwanda between 2007 and 2009. Prof.
The African Continental Free Trade Agreement offers hope of a revival of both regional and intra-African trade to boost trade and development in Eastern Africa.
This was the overarching message during Dr Andrew Mold’s IDS seminar presentation on the potential impact of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Eastern Africa region and the next steps concerning implementing the agreement.
The University of Nairobi Students from the Department of Literature, Soka University Students on exchange programme toured the United Nation lead by the Chair Dept of Literature Dr. Masumi Odari.
The Department of Literature hosted Soka University Students from Japan for a joint summer student exchange program. The programme was designed to empower students to explore, participate and enhance their leadership capabilities.
Later on Students together with the Soka Representatives, Chair Dept of Literature Dr. Masumi met the Dean Faculty of Arts Prof. Ephraim Wahome where they engaged in various matters in regards to the student's leadership mentorship programs, exchange programs and academic trips.
The Department of literature lead by the Chair Dr. Masumi Odari, Soka University Students and the UoN Students from the Department of Literature visited Raha Centre Boys Community Services, for volunteer missions and the word of encouragement.
